We are seeking Registered Building Inspectors in Birmingham who are ready to join our organisation in a role similar to their current position, as well as those who may not yet be ready for a senior role but are ambitious, motivated and keen to progress through the RBI classifications or into future leadership opportunities.

We are also looking to appoint an Associate Director who is a Registered Building Inspector (RBI) to our senior leadership team.

We’re looking for candidates with Class 2F registration or higher, experience in commercial buildings, and the confidence to carry out site inspections and review plans.

Opportunities are available in:

  • Birmingham
  • London
  • Kent
  • Essex
  • Midlands
  • North Buckinghamshire, the M23/A23 corridor and

Our client is a national Registered Building Control Approver with over 20 years’ experience delivering building control and fire safety services.

More than 95% of their work is in the commercial sector.

They offer professional independence, long-term stability, collaborative working and clear routes into senior management and future leadership roles, with development focused on supporting people rather than simply filling roles.

Core Technical Responsibilities:

The primary day-to-day duties involve carrying out comprehensive building control services, specifically balancing on-site visits with technical desk-based reviews:

  • Conducting physical site inspections on commercial developments to verify works comply with building regulations and relevant standards.
  • Reviewing and checking architectural and structural plans, technical drawings, and specifications for regulatory compliance.
  • Making independent, professional judgements and decisions strictly guided by safety, compliance, and quality standards.
  • Operating in accordance with your designated Registered Building Inspector classification (Class 2F registration or higher).

Leadership and Progression Responsibilities:

Depending on seniority and career goals, the role also encompasses leadership and advancement obligations:

  • Actively engaging in structured professional development and training to progress through the RBI classifications (such as advancing towards Class 3G/H).
  • Working collaboratively within the regional team while maintaining professional independence on regulatory decisions.
  • For the Associate Director track: joining the senior leadership team to contribute to higher-level management, business strategy, and the oversight of commercial building control operations.

Requirements:

  • Registered Building Inspector (RBI) status: registration at Class 2F or above for Birmingham, East London, Kent/South Essex and SE London opportunities
  • Registration at Class 2F for Essex, Mid/North Buckinghamshire and the M23/A23 corridor
  • Registration at Class 2D for Oxfordshire opportunities
  • Experience working on commercial buildings
  • Experience or willingness to undertake site inspections
  • Experience or willingness to undertake plan checks
  • Willingness to work in a role involving both site inspections and plan checks
  • Ambition and motivation to progress through the RBI classifications or into future leadership opportunities
  • Ability to operate with professional independence, with decisions guided by safety, compliance and quality
  • For the Associate Director opportunity, readiness to contribute as part of the senior leadership team

Benefits & Perks:

  • Competitive salary, with a car available through salary sacrifice or an allowance scheme;
  • Generous pension from day one;
  • Private medical insurance;
  • An EOT bonus that can be paid tax-free annually based on company performance;
  • 31 days’ annual leave increasing with length of service, plus bank holidays;

  • Payment of two professional fees plus TTD/CABE and BSR fees;
  • Structured development;
  • Flexible working and genuine work–life balance;
  • Home, hybrid and office working options;
  • Free EV charging at Head Office;
  • Company social events;
  • Birthday gifts;
  • Long service awards;
  • Full-time and part-time roles available from four to five days per week.
