Job Description:

Blue Recruitment Personnel is recruiting for an experienced Deputy Manager to support the leadership of a children’s residential home in the St Albans area, offering £40,000 per year, overtime and strong progression opportunities.

The Role:

This is an urgent opportunity for a confident, organised Deputy Manager who can provide immediate support to the Registered Manager and help maintain a safe, structured and nurturing home environment for children and young people.

You will take an active role in the day-to-day running of the service, supporting the staff team, maintaining high standards of care and ensuring that essential records, administration and compliance duties are completed accurately.

Shift Pattern:

  • Rota-based working pattern, including flexibility to cover operational requirements within a children’s residential setting.

    Support the Registered Manager with the daily operation of the children’s home

    Lead, guide and motivate residential care staff on shift

    Ensure children and young people receive safe, consistent and person-centred care

    Assist with care planning, risk assessments, incident reports and safeguarding documentation

    Maintain accurate records and ensure administration is completed to a high standard

    Support staff supervision, performance management and development where required

    Act as a senior point of contact during the Registered Manager’s absence

    Promote positive outcomes, independence and stability for children and young people

    Help ensure the home remains compliant with relevant regulations, policies and quality standards

    Build effective working relationships with professionals, families and external agencies

Requirements:

    Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an equivalent relevant qualification

  • p]:pt-0 [&>p]:mb-2 [&>p]:my-0″>

    Working towards a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management, or willing to complete this

  • p]:pt-0 [&>p]:mb-2 [&>p]:my-0″>

    Previous experience within children’s residential care

  • p]:pt-0 [&>p]:mb-2 [&>p]:my-0″>

    Strong knowledge of safeguarding, care planning and residential childcare practice

    Excellent administration, record-keeping and organisational skills

    Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and respond calmly under pressure

    A proactive approach with the confidence to step into a senior operational role from day one

    Clear written and verbal communication skills

    Enhanced DBS clearance, or willingness to obtain this

Suitable Experience:

This role would suit an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader, Shift Leader or Deputy Manager from a children’s home background who is ready to take on greater responsibility within an established provider.
