Senior Structural Engineer

Blue Recruitment Personnel is recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer in London.

Salary is £58,000 to £64,000 per annum, depending on experience, with a senior position suited to an engineer capable of leading projects, mentoring junior colleagues, and providing confident client-facing support. 

The Role:

This is a varied senior consultancy role combining technical checking, site attendance, mentoring, and early-stage project support. 

You will help steer engineering outputs, review calculations and design information, support fee proposals, and work closely with clients, builders, architects, and internal teams to keep projects moving smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

• Attend site visits independently and provide clear, practical advice to clients and project teams.
• Supervise, check, and advise on structural engineering calculations and design work.
• Support and develop junior engineers through coaching, mentoring, and on-site guidance.
• Ensure drawings, calculations, design sheets, and project information are completed accurately and on time.
• Review engineering outputs to help identify any unsafe or impractical designs.
• Monitor design risk assessments and promote safe site-aware engineering practice.
• Support fee preparation, business development activity, and networking with professional contacts.
• Keep project records, client details, and internal information organised and up to date.
• Help with scheme development and early-stage design production alongside junior colleagues.
• Ensure the correct software, procedures, and standards are used across each project.

Requirements:

• Strong background in structural engineering with senior-level consultancy experience.
• Ability to attend sites independently and advise confidently in a client-facing setting.
• Experience checking calculations, drawings, and engineering deliverables.
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and support team development.
• Good commercial awareness, including confidence with fee preparation and fee briefs.
• Strong understanding of site safety and how structural design affects construction, maintenance, and demolition.
• Excellent organisation, communication, and attention to detail.
• A proactive approach to business development and professional networking.

Suitable Experience:

This role will suit a Senior Structural Engineer, Chartered or near-Chartered Structural Engineer, or an experienced engineer ready to step into a role with more leadership and responsibility. It is especially relevant for someone who enjoys a balance of technical delivery, client interaction, site visits, and team support.
