The Role:

This is a hands-on leadership position within a children’s residential home, supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to ensure the home runs smoothly, safely, and in line with legislation, policies, and the Statement of Purpose.

You will help shape therapeutic, child-focused practice, mentor colleagues, oversee day-to-day routines, and ensure children and young people receive consistent, high-quality support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with the day-to-day running of the home.

  • Lead by example to promote a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment for children and young people.

  • Safeguard children and promote their rights, welfare, dignity, and participation in home life.

  • Supervise, mentor, and support residential support workers, including new staff induction.

  • Help coordinate casework, records, administrative functions, and care planning.

  • Contribute to development plans, team training, and continuous service improvement.

  • Liaise with external professionals, commissioning authorities, families, and internal teams.

  • Support and chair meetings, reviews, and discussions where required.

  • Organise rotas and ensure the home is appropriately staffed to meet children’s needs.

  • Ensure medication procedures, professional practice, health and safety, and budgets are followed correctly.

  • Maintain a clean, secure, and well-kept environment and respond promptly to repairs and maintenance issues.

  • Participate in an on-call system and provide cover where needed, including sleep-ins and occasional cross-home support.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

  • Significant experience working in a children’s residential setting.

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, children’s homes procedures, and relevant legislation.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and liaise confidently with multiple agencies.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong organisational, leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Full driving licence.

  • Commitment to professional development and willingness to work towards Level 5.

Suitable Experience:

This role will suit an experienced Residential Support Worker, Senior Residential Support Worker, or Team Leader who is ready to take on greater responsibility in a children’s home setting. It will also suit someone with at least one to two years’ residential care experience who has a strong understanding of care standards, safeguarding, and positive behaviour support.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary with sleep-in earnings and overtime available.

  • Blue Light Card and free DBS check.

  • 210 hours of annual leave.

  • 3% employer pension contribution.

  • Fully funded training, including Level 3, 4, and 5 diplomas.

  • Comprehensive induction and therapeutic training for all staff.

  • Refer a friend bonus scheme up to £500.

  • Career progression opportunities across the service.

  • Casual dress and a supportive team culture.

  • Team-building events and access to an electric car scheme.

  • A genuine focus on work-life balance and staff development.
